never satisfied

I’m no better than anyone else. The human condition can be summed up in two words: “never satisfied”. Annoying, yes, but probably also responsible for most human progress.

From June through mid-August, I whined steadily because it was just too too humid and hot to get out on my bicycle. I may like to think of myself as a hot chick, but, more to the point, I’m a chick that just doesn’t like to be that kind of hot.

Unlike other summers, when I cycled every day, many days I was stuck with my winter sport, exercycling. I really missed my early morning rides. In other summers, when I couldn't ride in the mornings, I'd skive off early from my office or studio I love my exercycle more than any of my other bikes. A Schwinn, it provides me with one thing the others can’t -- the world's best excuse for excessive reading. For more than 10 years, I've been pedalling along, clutching a book in one hand.

Just recently, it occurred to me that there must be a reading stand for this machine. Thanks to the Web, I found one, only to learn it couldn't be shipped to Canada. Often obstructed, seldom daunted, I believed that I'd find a way to get one of these, even if I had to drive to Rochester or Buffalo, NY. Better idea. I found a Rochester bicycle shop Web site and called. No begging required, they’d be delighted, they said, to sell me one and ship it.

And that’s exactly what they did. That reading stand made the first half of this way-too-hot summer bearable and now that cooler weather has appeared and I can cycle outside, I really miss all the reading time.
