you never know

Phil and I played hooky Friday afternoon and I fell in love.

Well, I have a crush anyway.

For quite a while, I've been wanting to learn more about one of Phil's lifelong passions, slot car racing. Friday, we slipped away from the studio and spent an hour racing cars around a track. I was orange and he blue. Orange made 119 laps at a maximum speed of 8.6 but blue did 141 laps at a maximum speed of 9.2. Blue won.

At first, it felt a lot like doodling... dreamy and aimless. But while it was clear that this was one of the most relaxing ways you can spend an hour, it's also invigorating. You have to concentrate, but it's not intellectually difficult. You can get better at it almost right away, but there's a lot of finesse involved if you want to get really good. .

As I got a bit better, I began to understand where the challenges lie and I was hooked. As we were leaving, I declared my crush: "I'm going to want to do this again". Before we began, I don't think Phil or I would have predicted that, once again proving that you just never know.
